The Second  Symposium on "CHEMICAL STRUCTURE - BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY RELATIONSHIPS: QUANTITATIVE APPROACHES"

Suhl, October 25-28, 1976

Proceedings "Quantitative Structure - Activity Analysis" (R. Franke, P. Oehme, eds.), Abhandlungen der Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR, No. 2, Akademie-Verlag Berlin, 1978

Organising and Scientific Committee: R. Franke and P. Oehme (chairmen), W. Laass, S. Dove

Some main topics of the symposium:

bullet Description of hydrophobicity and its influence  on biological potency (transport, hydrophobic interactions)
bullet Steric properties and biological activity
bullet Quantum chemical approaches
bullet Mathematical methods for the evaluation of QSAR.
bullet Problems in estimating biological potencies

From the Rainer Franke Preface: "QSAR can be used to systematically maximise desired biological effect, and to minimise toxicity as well as to get some deeper insight into mechanisms of action at the molecular level. As a result the gain in information is drastically increased and the search for new drugs becomes much more rational and effective. It is not surprising, therefore, that QSAR have developed into an indispensable tool in modern drug research."
